About

Please note the Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower will undergo the installation of a lightning strike protection system, as well as structural upgrades, during the latter half of July and into August. While the park grounds will remain open, the tower structure itself will temporarily close to the public. It is anticipated this will occur on or about Wednesday, July 16. It is expected this construction project will be completed by Friday, August 8, allowing the work to be done before the busy fall colours season.

The Tower park, gift shop, public water refill station, hiking trail and Peek-A-Boo Rock (which offers its own spectacular view) will remain OPEN during this time period. Admission fees will be discounted by 50 per cent for the duration of the construction project. Please note the discount is not applicable to season passes.

The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower offers views like no other! The trail begins behind the Dorset Heritage Museum and winds its way through a beautiful mixed forest from the base of the lookout hill to the top, and back down again. The incline is fairly steep in places so sturdy shoes and a reasonable level of fitness are recommended. The total length of the trail is 2.3km long. Taking time at the top of the lookout is a must while hiking this trail. The view is especially gorgeous in the fall at peak colour change when the leaves are vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red. The Dorset Tower is both a great attraction and a historical landmark. It was built in 1967 on the site of the original fire tower where rangers once kept an eye out for potentially disastrous forest fires. The access point to get to the trail is just a turn-off of Hwy 35 onto Dorset Scenic Tower Rd. The trail is considered to be moderately difficult. Click Here for the trail map.
