Join Paranormal Muskoka for a Tour at Woodchester

It’s the spookiest time of the year to tour Woodchester

October 22, 2018 – MUSKOKA ON

The Paranormal Muskoka ladies return to Woodchester on Saturday, October 27, and you can get tickets to this spooky (and fun) evening.

Spook your interest in the history surrounding Woodchester, all while learning about spirit boxes, EMF monitors, and other ways to communicate with spirit.

Initially, each tour date of this historical family home was selected to be within three days of the full moon cycle, a time that is easiest to communicate with the other side.  Halloween has been known for centuries as the time of year that the veil between the living and the dead is almost non-existent, making this the perfect time to host a paranormal investigation.

Many psychics, mediums and other paranormal investigators have been drawn to the home over the past few months, each time sharing insight as to what life might have been like for the Bird family and others of that time. It is through these mediums that a number of spirits have been identified as residing in the historic home.

The Spirits of Woodchester

Today, 3 generations and 130 years have passed since Henry J. Bird first moved his family into Woodchester. However scenes from over a century ago still remain. The ghost of Henry J. Bird, the original homeowner, is thought to visit the home often. While his spirit does not remain in the building every day, he does “pop-in” from time to time to keep an eye on his old, octagonal home. Henry’s youngest daughter Mary ‘May’ Matilda Bird has been seen in the window of the third level room that overlooks the grounds. It has been said that she stayed there to oversee the home and didn’t often leave her seat. Others have made mention of the ghosts of two young children, an old cook, a doctor, and a few stray spirits as well.

Woodchester, previously referred to as either ‘Woodchester Villa’ or ‘The Bird House’, was built in 1882 by Henry James Bird. The eight-sided design was inspired by the writings of Orson Squire Fowler, a 19th century architectural philosopher. Fowler believed that the octagonal design promoted physical and mental well-being, and was the most economical way to use building materials and living space.

In 1871 Henry had lost his first wife and their two children to Tuberculosis. Today, individuals who claim to have communicated with Henry’s spirit say that although he was an emotionally strong and steadfast man, the fear of a family member becoming ill haunted him regularly. Due to this unimaginable heartbreak many speculate that Fowler’s theories, pertaining to increased health and wellness for those living in an octagonal home, was the foremost reason for the inspired design of Woodchester.

Where Events take Shape

Woodchester was reopened as an event space in June, 2018 and is host to a variety of public and private events. Once a homestead for a community-centered, active family, members of the Bird family were fond of sharing in all societal gatherings. It is only fitting that this space now be recognized as not only a historic site, but also a space for the community to gather, connecting them to new people and experiences.

If you were interested in the paranormal ghost tours and are looking for more ways to connect to the other side, join the Psychics in Training meeting that takes place every Thursday from 6:30pm – 9:00pm at Woodchester.
