Two of Canada’s greatest roots singer-songwriters have finally done what everybody’s wanted — heck, what they’ve wanted — for years. Dave Gunning and J.P. Cormier are releasing their first album together, called Two. Great friends, frequent collaborators, co-writers and touring partners, the pair has been talking about this album since pretty much the day they met. Now it’s here, and it’s everything fans hoped and dreamed it would be.
Shortly after coming to Canada, Robi caught the ear of Canadian Jazz great Oscar Peterson and quickly became his protégé. To this day, Robi remains a disciple of Dr. Peterson’s mighty sense of swing and technical virtuosity. Along with this influence, Robi possesses a deep tradition in Romani, Hungarian and European Folk and Classical music. This fusion of North American Bebop, Hard Bop, and Modern Jazz along with the deep tradition of Folk music in Eastern Europe and Romantic Classical music, has formulated a sound and approach that is formidable and unsurpassed. Many of Jazz’s greatest musicians consider Robi to be one of the few young leaders on the piano worldwide. Musicians from Branford Marsalis to Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, and many more consider Robi to be one of the greats on the instrument.

Alejandra Ribera has been writing about the unexpected places we find light since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album La boca. In her sophomore release THIS ISLAND, the award-winning songwriter continues her exploration of luminescence – this time leaving the depths of mythological waters and delving firmly into the experience of the human heart. She cites some unlikely influences as inspiring her approach to this recording – a speech by actress Tilda Swinton at the Rothko Chapel, a documentary about performance artist Marina Abramovic and studying movement in Paris with one of Pina Bausch’s earliest devotees.
Perfecting what they call “Roadhouse Trucker Slop Country”, this 4 piece honky tonk band hailing from Orillia, Ont Can.- is sure to keep floors filled from the first note. Coming together over a passion of keeping country music raw and true too it’s roots but at the same time adding an energetic kick that has been winning over all audiences from folkies to metalheads and punkers. The personal that make up this outfit are Terry Savage (tele spanking/lead vocal), Timmay Kehoe (crying pedal steel guitar), and let’s not forget the thundering rhythm section from hell that is Grant Lauer (bass guitar/harmony vocals) and Aaron Bennet (drums/voices).
