For the week of June 3 – 9, 2019
It’s the first full week of June and fun is IN THE AIR! Here are our recommendations for seizing some early Summer fun this week.
Soak up the sun this Saturday with the SS Bigwin’s Annual Community BBQ, or take your beats to the streets with the much-anticipated Band on the Run event in Huntsville – which also ends with a BIG music festival in River Mill Park! Then you can even keep your groove going by joining the Jive Bombers for their evening performance at the Gravenhurst Opera House.
Shop ’til you drop in Port Carling
For those who love to indulge in some retail therapy, now is the best time to stop by your favourite shops. Our suggested stop this week is Downtown Port Carling, where you can find just the right outfit, art piece, or cottage décor gem that you’ve been looking for. Best of all, you get to take in the beauty of the waterfront as you make your way from store-to-store.
Make the most of your day out by also visiting the Muskoka Lakes Museum to soak up a little heritage and grabbing a bite to eat at one of the fabulous downtown restaurants overlooking the Indian River.
SS Bibgwin Community BBQ
Jump-start your summer celebrations this Saturday, June 8, with the annual SS Bigwin Community BBQ in Dorset (the SS Bigwin’s home port). Groove out to great tunes thanks to the Moose FM as you enjoy a delicious (and FREE) BBQ lunch. Plus, get in on the action as early as you can and you could even soak up the scenery with a complimentary cruise on the SS Bigwin. It’s first-come-first-served though, so don’t dawdle!
Band on the Run
Band on the Run is back and bringing the beats to the streets of Huntsville this Saturday, June 8. With over 1,000 participants already registered for the morning’s run and a hoppin’ music festival happening in the afternoon, this event promises to be MAJOR fun! Join in as a spectator to enjoy all this event has to offer, or register to run. All registered runners receive a t-shirt, finisher medal, and VIP status.
The Jive Bombers
Get your groove on in Gravenhurst this Saturday evening for some high-energy (and highly humorous) jazz with the Jive Bombers. This beloved Toronto area band will be joined by Johnny Max, a favourite at the Gravenhurst Opera House, for lively, toe-tapping entertainment with a bluesy edge. Save your spot by buying tickets today!
Tee and taste
Now that the warmer weather is on its way, golfers are gearing up to get out on that green! Have yourself the tastiest tee time ever by planning a visit to one of Muskoka’s amazing courses that also offers on-site dining.
Here are some recommended stops where you can pair your putt with the perfect refuel and refreshment for you:
- Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course and the Antler Steakhouse
- North Granite Ridge Golf Club and the Clubhouse Tap & Grill
- Windermere Golf & Country Club and the Mulligans Bar & Grill
- South Muskoka Curling & Golf Club and the Clubhouse Patio
