AC/DC are without a doubt one of the longest reigning and best selling bands in the history of rock n roll. Formed in Sydney Australia in 1973 by brothers, Angus and Malcolm, they have an impressive 17 studio albums to their credit with sales in excess of 200 million units sold worldwide. The Back in Black album stands alone as the top selling album by a band (2nd to solo artist Michael Jackson’s Thriller album) with 50 million copies sold.
Every now and then, you run across someone with a library’s worth of stories to tell. But unlike the raconteurs who regale friends with well-embellished versions of their exploits, these storytellers have lived so much, they reveal chapters of their hard-won wisdom slowly, carefully, like layers peeled from an onion.
Ray Bonneville didn’t even open his storybook until his early 40s, some 20 years after he started performing. But with a style that sometimes draws comparisons to JJ Cale and Daniel Lanois, this blues-influenced, New Orleans-inspired “song and groove man,” as he’s been so aptly described, luckily found his rightful calling.
A theatrical piece of distinct power, with some of Williams’ most potent lyricism, The GLASS MENAGERIE is told to us by Tom Wingfield, a merchant marine looking back on the Depression years he spent with his overbearing Southern genteel mother Amanda and his physically disabled, cripplingly shy sister, Laura. Williams’ intensely personal and brilliantly tender masterpiece exposes the complexity of our memories, and the ways in which we can never truly escape them.

The band started as an impromptu jam in a partied out kitchen in Parkdale, but now Freeman Dre & the Kitchen Party is one of Toronto’s most exciting and consistent live acts. Whether in barrooms, theatres, house parties, or festivals the band delivers while attentive crowds raise their glasses and sing along with favourites from the group’s four releases (2010’s Red Door Second Floor, 2012’s Old Town, the digital-only release 2015’s Vodka/Pickle EP, and 2017’s Wreckless Good Intentions).
