Charles Wilkins’ book, Great Lengths: A Celebration of the Surveyors of Ontario, was published to mark Canada150 and the 125th anniversary of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors. This illustrated presentation tells the epic, adventurous, and little-known story of the role played by land surveyors in the evolution and success of the province.
The presentation will follow the story from its wild, often incendiary, beginnings through two centuries of development, including surveying’s sometimes shadowy role in colonialism, and its response to the irrepressible rise of women in the profession.
