Seeing through Tom’s Eyes, Public Reception at Chapel Gallery
Seeing through Tom’s Eyes: A discovery of truth, light and colour by Janine Marson
2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Tom Thomson’s death. Local artist Janine Marson wanted to honour the date so she embarked on an ambitious project to paint 100 sketches of the same places that Thomson painted. This exhibition is her interpretation of Thomson’s work 100 years later. “More than ever I feel compelled to paint and document this beautiful place I call home,” says Janine. “Nowhere else do I know of a place where one could find, 100 years later, the same rugged idyllic landscape as it was in the day that Thomson and The Group of Seven first set out to paint the wilderness.”
Seeing through Tom’s Eyes opens with a Public Reception: Saturday, January 21, 1pm-4pm with an artist’s talk at 1:30pm. The Chapel Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm.
